Burwells Map of Winnipesaukee

This was one of the first large scale engravings I made after getting my laser engraver. The project originated when I received an old map of Lake Winnipesaukee from a good friend.

It was a paper copy that had been folded up and tucked away in a drawer for a countless number of years. After receiving the map and getting opened I found a beautiful hand drawn edition of a lake navigation map which I have never seen before. The map was in a rapid state of disrepair and showing its age with both missing details and rips forming on the folds. I knew this rendition should be preserved and began to painstakingly digitally repair the image.

After adding a few personal touches for our home and a custom designed frame, the map was able to help guide the way once again! I first laser engraved the restored image on a piece of blonde wood then hand painted the lake in blue stain. The nautical themed frame was an original design specifically for the piece, to add both contrast and subtle details to a masterfully drawn map.
